Not that my opinion really matters, since I'm not contributing to the
code :) But I agree with Fitz here. I don't think it really matters
whether the map is mime.types or the freedesktop.org proposed
standard.

The points you brought up seem to indicate that mime.types is laid
out a little better for parsing, and since that file is pretty
ubiquitous within the UNIX world, it seems to make perfect sense to
start with that. If the other thing becomes the accepted and widely
impletmented standard, if you code things right now, then you should
be able to twiddle a few bits and have the code use the new file
format later.

That's my $.0002 on the color of this bike shed :)
