I can't speak for the 1003 change, but I get back from vacatoin in 10
days from now.

It would be much better, from a coding point of view, if your change
went in first. As to priority... Well, it's likely that performance and
scalability are more important ATM than supporting SQL backends. But
it's not my call. Personally, I'd perfer to start hacking on this after
your DB backend changes are in.
