Fixed-sized keyword expansion?

Hi!

I didn't find much about keyword expansion in the docs, so before digging
through the code I thought I'd ask the guys in the know ;-)

Is there a possibility yet to do keyword expansion into a fixed-sized area?
(Means: after substitution you end up with exactly the same filesize as
before).
This is *extremely* useful for any binary data files which happen not be
checksummed (that's exactly what most of my day-to-day files are...).
Is this in already? If so, how to do it?
