"sven" is much faster to say. And you get to "seven up" rather than
"ess vee en up". This is the same reason MIT use "web" instead of
"www" -- "www" is one of those acronyms that takes longer to say than
the expanded version.

Oh, and "svn" isn't even an acronym, it's a contraction! You don't
pronounce "don't", "do en tee". (It sounds like a Microsoft product...)
