My apache error log has stuff like

[Sun Jan 26 18:36:08 2003] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Could not fetch
 resource information. [500, #0]
[Sun Jan 26 18:36:08 2003] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Could not open
 the SVN filesystem at /home/faheem/subversion [500, #160029]
 [Sun Jan 26 18:36:08 2003] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission
denied: Berkeley DB error while opening environment for filesystem
 /home/faheem/subversion/db:

But my home filesystem has global read permission.

It needs read-write permission. See INSTALL, Section III.C, the final
note.

http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/INSTALL, if you can't find it.
