You aren't in the package management business, you are in the getting it as
simple as possible to install Subversion business.
As simple as possible can cover a multitude of sins. :-)
Comparing our INSTALL documentation with similar docs for other
packages, I think we're doing pretty well.
I think you're both right.
Our installation process *is* a bit more complicated than the simple
configure make make install people have come to know and love.
Especially if one is setting up a dav server.
However, it's simple enough for most people to do with a little
patience, and our developer resources are better spent addressing
software issues right now. Furthermore, several volunteers have been
packaging Subversion for common platforms. I think this should not be
a priority for us, though can certainly understand where Martin
Ellison is coming from.
Would you be willing to create such an all-in-one tarball? If you do, it
should be no problem to get it uploaded to the file sharing area on
subversion.tigris.org. But I don't think you can expect someone else to
do it for you; remember, every single binary package you see there was
made by a volunteer.
+1 :-)
