I'd certainly like to have 0.17 build against 2.0.44, and (as I said in
my reply to Sander) one of the things that have to be done for 0.17 also
helps 2.0.44 out of the door.
I suppose I could revert that chage, or put it on a branch and continue
fixing #872 there. But that means the branch couldn't be merged to the
mainline until 2.0.44 is out. Do we want that?
