Received "Berkeley DB error while appending string for filesystem" during extremely large commit

From: Brandon Ehle <azverkan_at_yahoo.com>

We got this error when attempting to do an extremely large commit. The
database was in its "DB_RUNRECOVERY" state after this commit. With this
commit our strings file would have just barely exceeeded 4GB. Is there
a possibility that we need to recompile our kernel with larger file
support or did we possibly hit a Berkeley DB maximum? Or could there be
a different issue that we've run into?

From:
svn around ~1400 on the server, about 1411 on the client.
RedHat 8.0
Dual Athlon 1.4GHZ
1GB RAM
1GB swap
