When asking questions, you should be more specific. For example, your above
question is asking about SWIG, but you didn't even mention it...

SWIG 1.3.16 has only recently been released. Reading the CHANGES file, it
seems we should be able to use it. Just change the condition in
ac-helpers/swig.m4 and try it out. If it seems to work, then let us know and
we can change the requirements.
