The way people usually end up on the "svn team" is by wishing the svn
team would focus on some particular thing (hint, hint... :-) ).

Your concerns are spot on. Any concrete help you can give in solving
these problems would be welcome. "Concrete help" == "formal design
specs and patches". (Not that your contributions to discussion aren't
welcome too, just that code runs better than prose.)
