problems copying and removing a directory

From: Dylan Cuthbert <dylan_at_q-games.com>

I have a tree repo/john/blob checked out and I also have a tree of just john
checked out somewhere else.

I then try to update or commit from my "other" checked out john, I now get
the error

svn: Error string not specified yet
svn: Commit failed (details follow):
svn: OPTIONS request failed on /repo/john/blob
svn:
file not found: revision `1377', path `/john'

I can't commit/update or do anything with this other directory now, it has
been orphaned somehow. However, svn info displays that it is revision
"1376" so it still knows that much.

So what if I had important changes in this directory that I want to commit
*somewhere*, what do I do?

So... what's the correct course of action?

Regards
