I was going to say that I did, but, while I really did do it, I now
believe in retrospect that I ran a "make clean" without re-running
autogen.sh. That's probably it.

It worked better this time. Thanks, and sorry for the extra traffic.

(Oh and yes, I have read INSTALL several times before :))
