I'm not sure what you mean by this? If you're seeing deadlocks,
then trying the operation again won't help. Can you please tell
me more about what you meant in this sentence?

There are ways to cause Berkeley DB to return immediately if a
lock isn't available, but I don't think that's the problem.

Anyway, let's talk further about what you're doing and the symptom
you're seeing, and then I can suggest ways to fix or debug the
problem.
