I've always wondered how they justify not just rewriting the thing in
"anything but m4".

Then again, i've always wondered why anyone would seriously use m4.

m4 - combining the coding ease of brainf*ck with the power of ed scripts
(give or take a little).

It's just one of those wrong-headed ideas that went too far (you know,
kinda like Cygwin, which combines the ease of use of unix with the
reliability of windows. :P)
