Well that's what started me on this actually, svn_wc_check_wc also works with
the \ notation since it directly ties to APR for it's function (checks the
existance of a Readme if I recall); some others possibly do too -- so it felt
like a natural assumption that this behavior should extend into other areas.

Let's just make sure this is well documented. Maybe I should do a few "common
pitfals when writing a client" paragraphs once I'm 'done' with mine.
