I know Greg Stein knows this already, but given this discussion, and the
other thread about Perforce timings I thought I'd reiterate this common
performance mantra: Show me the profiling numbers!

Before making any change, esp. here, someone should design some useful
perf cases, both straight line functionality testing, and loaded data
store stress testing. Once you have these cases, you can profile
subversion and determine where real performance improvements need to be
implemented.
