Agree with rant -- and have always agreed with it, just failed to
think through all the implications, and therefore added the suffix in
the CHANGES file, etc. My fault, folks.

Well, we're not really permanently screwed -- we could branch and
release a new tarball. But it's not worth the trouble. We'll (I'll)
just remember for next time.
