i would prefer this solution as well.

at least then i wouldn't have to remember to do an 'rm -rf' when
blowing away a subversion working copy. i swear, every time i try to
do that i end up doing 'rm -r', and then it fails to delete the read
only files, and i have to do it again. you'd think i'd learn...
