As long as I'm blathering about storage formats, have a look at this
paper:

It calls itself "Version Management of XML Documents", but it's a
general technique for efficient storage of versioned documents;
definitely beats the RCS algorithm, probably does better than weave,
and I think it would fit nicely on top of BDB.
