Issues 493 and 532

I would love to keep working on these, but the reality is that my
responsibilities as a husband, parent, student, teacher's assistant, and part
time retail employee have to come first right now. Hopefully things will slow
down a little bit after the next two weeks, and I will have some more time to
spend on svn development, but if anyone wants to take on these issues in the
meantime, be my guest.

I do have a couple of thoughts regarding the recursive/non-recursive thing.
What I would like to see is both of those switches removed and a
--depth=[0,1,inf] introduced, so that each subcommand would have a default
depth, but they could all be over-ridden with the --depth switch.
