More on "arch" (our competition)

The arch source code is now available if you look at www.regexps.com.

Here is my birds-eye appraisal: it's clever, but I have serious doubts
that you'd want to use it on a big project. (It will be interesting
to see if the gcc team actually uses it, since that seems to a focus
of the projcet.) It's written entirely in /bin/sh, as far as I can
tell, which is certainly a novel approach. This of course makes it
very Unix-centric. I also haven't seen much attention paid to
efficiency in it's architecture.

On the other hand, it does support distributed repositories, something
we're not geared for very well.
