Hi folks,
I've been following this thread with interest.
I'm not very sure what you propose the use of the checksum should be
for. Transmission over wire?? or to verify data corruption on data that
has been stored on disk.
If you are considering the latter, MD5 will only be able to perform
the verification of data corruption on the data. It will be unable to
restore data to the correct context in the event of data corruption. Is
there any other hashes that may be perhaps used instead of MD5 for data
on the disk?? In the event that such a hash proves to be sufficiently
useful, can we then use it to hash the data when transmitting over
wire??
Ciao
