My own willingness to write that went up about eightfold when I
started using M-( in Emacs to insert the parens. M-( can probably be
talked out of making spaces like that but I've come to like it over
time, and it doesn't cause me any real trouble to do it. Where it
really burns you is languages like Ruby, where a [2] and a[2] are
parsed differently.

Not that my tendencies matter a whit here, as I'm just a lurker
normally. :)
