short-term schedule

Just a quick FYI: we're still shooting for Dec. 7th milestone 2. I
will unfortunately be gone (more or less offline) for most of this
week doing some other work, so I won't be making many commits or
responding to mails.

Ben and I had a session on short-term direction today, with results
carved onto our whiteboard for posterity; he'll transfer that to the
STACK file soon, so we can all act like we have A Plan. :-)

Greg H, re the client: go ahead and do your second suggestion, as
described in the comment in client/main.c, if you want. Search for
the string
