Actually, it *is* status. Take a peek at www.m-w.com. :)

The English word status comes directly from the Latin word status ('a
position' or 'standing'). The Latin word is a 4th declension masculine
word, and so the nominative plural is `status'. Words derive from 2nd
declension masculine or neuter Latin words are the ones that tend to
have plurals ending in `i' (as well as English words of Greek origin).
