I do see the smileys, but wonder...

IMHO, it's best to target relatively recent versions of
developer-only tools like texinfo -- within reason, of course.

I'm sure you realize that even joe-user-who-runs-configure won't need
to run makeinfo, ... because I presume the *.info files are distributed
as part of the .tar.gz package.

People say I'm humor-impaired... :-)
