Well, the standard also disallows intermixing.
Also, I do think it depends on how you conceptualize the command line.
IF `svn' is considered a shell (which is the way the discussion
seems to be leading), THEN what follows on the line is a command
and its options and arguments. The command and its opts & args *does*
follow the convention^H^H^H^Hstandard. :-)
