It would be "neat", but none of our software would be able to take advantage
of it (at the moment). The client would have figure out what the problem was
and then compensate somehow. (and revise the opened transaction and commit
again) Very difficult...

That said: I can see that a client at some point in the future *could* do
this. To that end, having an FS API that leaves the transaction open would
be very handy. Under the covers, maybe you won't allow certain kinds of
re-jiggering, and the client and mod_dav wouldn't actually try to use that
feature. But over time, the API feature could be used, and we could have
recovery and restart of a transaction.
