Berkeley DB is not part of the standard install on a lot of systems, and
many people therefore won't have it, so you want to make some version
available wherever SVN is deposited.

On the other hand, many people *will* have it, and the last thing you want
is to be overwriting a later version.

Therefore, it should be a separate package, but you should have a copy of
some tested version in the source tree.

As an aside, Josh McDonald has had limited luck trying to get a couple of
things addressed in Berkeley DB. You should ask him for details on this. I
believe one of them was a memory allocation problem, but it's been a while
so I may misrecollect.
