Okay. This is a usability call. A case can be made for both interfaces. The
difference in philosophy is that you are trying to protect the idiots from
damaging themselves while I am trying to take the view that files in my
workspace are mine to do with as I wish.

There is no "right" answer to such problems.

My request would be a configuration option to let an expert override this
(mis)feature.

As an aside, I submit that "svn revert" is a better solution to the problem
of inadvertent modification.
