RE: "Subversion encountered a serious problem." error details

Hi,

I sent that error screen shot to 'users_at_subversion.apache.org' because the first two sentences of the error message in the screen shot states :

"Subversion encountered a serious problem. Please take the time to report this on the Subversion mailing list (users_at_subversion.apache.org) with as much information as possible about what you were trying to do."

I included the second error message screen shot because, as stated in my email: " Only noticeable difference between today (and also in the last few days) as compared to previously is that my Tortoise app is not supported by the subversion server software. See below. Though, I have not experienced the above issue until 15 minutes ago. "

This is the only change that I know of on my development computer that has occurred in the last few weeks. The developers would want to know this.

I am not "mislead" by nor do I not understand any of the errors. The sole purpose of that email was to provide feedback and details as requested by the error message.

Jason

Hi, Jason,

It seems that you discovered two different issuses.

That first screenshot shows an assertion failure in TortoiseSVN 1.7 beta 2. It is likely to be fixed in the latest build of TortoiseSVN (you try that one), and if not, you come back with that issue. :-)

The second issue seems to have mislead you, it is not about Tortoise, and not about the server.

The problem is that the aforementioned TortoiseSVN 1.7 beta 2 (or another 1.7-based client you used on that working copy) upgraded your working copy to the new 1.7 format. And it seems that you still have an 1.6 based version of AnkhSVN installed in your visual studio, which cannot cope with the new 1.7 format.

The solution for this to upgrade AnkhSVN to the newest 1.7-based build (http://ankhsvn.open.collab.net/daily) or wait until the first 1.7-based version is released.

In my opinion, the error message clearly describes that second issue, so it would be nice if you could tell us what in that message did you mislead to believe it is about the server refusing your client, so the developers can improve on that message. :-)

Best regards
