svn is free and already include on Leopard and Snow Leopard macs. Granted it is the CLI implementation. If you are looking for a graphical client then this of course won't do.

Might I suggest DropBox.com? You can set up shared folders in dropbox so they are synced among multiple people. The service is free up to 2GB of data.
