Preferable way to remove a external file

Hi,

I have created a external file in my working copy and am trying to remove the file. I removed the external property form the directry and committed. Now what shoud I do? I still have the file in the directry and could not 'svn delete' the file since it was external. Then I used 'del'(os command) but 'svn status' told me the file is missing. 'svn update' did not work to remove the file. What is a preferable way in this situation?

Thanks,
Kotaro
