The instructions here will work just fine:

http://lists.apple.com/archives/Xcode-users/2009/Mar/msg00332.html

I recommend you stick with 1.5.6 for now and avoid 1.6.x. You can get
a 1.5.6 installer that will work with the above instructions from:

http://svnbinaries.open.collab.net/files/documents/153/1707/file_1707.dat/Subversion%201.5.6%20Universal.dmg

As for why 1.6.0 and later are bad, read this:

http://lists.apple.com/archives/Xcode-users/2009/Mar/msg00443.html

and then see this:

http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=2580

for more information about why 1.6.0 was broken to create zombies
including much more detail and a patch to fix the problem.

Kyle

P.S. If you want to see if any patch/fix has actually been applied to
Subversion to eliminate the zombie problem, you can check the log here:

http://svn.collab.net/viewvc/svn/trunk/subversion/libsvn_ra_svn/client.c?view=log

(Currently the trunk of Subversion is still broken in that it
continues to create zombies.)
