svn import problem -- Ubuntu

From: C. Bates <ccbates_at_gmail.com>
Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2008 15:33:20 -0800 (PST)

subversion 1.5.1
Ubuntu 8.10

user_at_user-desktop:~/workspace/Net1$ svn import -m"initial import" ./src/
http://localhost/SVN/Net1
Authentication realm: <http://localhost:80> Subversion repository
Password for 'user':
svn: Can't open file '/home/user/SVN/Net1/db/txn-current-lock': Permission
denied
user_at_user-desktop:~/workspace/Net1$

I can point my browser to http://localhost/SVN/Net1, authenticate, and see
that Version 0 has no files...

What am I doing wrong?
TIA for any advice...
