How to fix "Decompression of svndiff data failed" ?

From: Wichert Akkerman <wichert_at_wiggy.net>

We have a reasonably large subversion repository which can not be
dumped: every attempt fails with this error:

svnadmin: Decompression of svndiff data failed

I can find many reports of people running into this problem, but not a
single solution. Does anyone know of a way to fix this, or at least
modify the repository so a dump works, even if that means loosing a
few files?

Wichert.
