But how many will be performing *concurrent* operations on the server?
Nowhere near 200.

There are open source projects with thousands of people accessing
their repositories, with no trouble.

As I noted, my server is virtual, and I've had no trouble. My
repository is hosted on a drive which is hosted on our SAN, so adding
disk capacity is as easy as asking my storage admin to allocate a few
more GB for me - zero downtime (one can do this with physical boxes
too).
