Without the counter arguments it could be reduced to one single
line:

This is not and will never be possible by design( and generally
considered an insane idea*).

Along with quite a number of others I have argued repeatedly for
preserving this timestamp in the past. I am still with SVN as the
limitations of other systems were more harming to the environment
and workflow here. Besides there is old saying: Don't look a gift
horse in the mouth.

* "All people who behave strangely are not insane ..." (Bringing Up
Baby, 1938)
