netbeans projects

What I've been doing so far is

1.) checkout the trunk of the google code project
2.) create a netbeans "java project with existing source"
2b.) point the "source package folder" to the src directory,
     something like: ~/my-google-project/src/
3.) run subversion from the command line
4.) occasionally, delete everything and go to step #1

I'd like to use subversion from the GUI, and am referencing
http://www.netbeans.org/kb/60/ide/subversion which looks decent.

I'll have to try it again, but so far my attempts seem to have resulted
in uploading all sorts of config and build files but no source code.
Also, I'm not quite sure what happens when you checkout all those config
and build files, how do you put them back into netbeans?

thanks,

Thufir
