question about realm

Dear all:
I add user and their passwords in the passwd file.
I also set their authority in authz file.
But each time I try to checkout the source code it will always ask me the
realm password.
I type the user and password in the passwd file, but each time it still tell
me that I key in the wrong data.
Where can I find the password about realm and what the realm is used for?
