Preservation of files dates on checkout ...

I am new to this mailing list, so it's quite likely this question has
been asked before.

Is there a way to preserve the original date of a file at the time it
was checked into Subversion upon checkout from Subversion?

We have versioned runtime images stored in Subversion and would like to
be able to distinguish between updated files vs. older files without a
full differencing analysis.
