copyright auto-append and $Year$?

hello, similar to threads in '06 re copyright auto-append. Wanted to restart & see if any more solutions out there... (a) ignoring the legal debate for a moment re having to touch copyright for each year modified i.e. Copyright 2001, 2002 etc...if I just wanted to have a Copyright with the current year auto-appended is there a way to do that? We currently use $Date$ and $Revision$ from svn:keywords. $Date$ is too verbose for copyright stamping and cant seem to find a built-in $Year$ (b) auto-append of copyright stamp - I agree w/ the Mar '06 threads re commit hooks being good approach. Just wondered if anybody had implemented other approaches before we go forward w/ commit hook method.
