Ok, I wiped out my dir and started afresh. I only haven openssl and
expat installes as pre-built binaries now. I extracted zlib and neon
into subdirs of the subversion checkout and this time only changed the
neon .mak file a little bit (setting the variables in the .mak file and
fixing the expected paths for openssl (instead of out32 its lib due to
the pre-built binaries).

Now my problem is sqlite3, I can't find a prebuilt package for Windows
and the sources don't seem to have a setup to be built under windows.
So how do I produce a sqlite3 dll and import lib from the sources, or
where can I find a prepackaged sqlite3 library+header? (I only found a
.zip with a .dll and a .def, no import lib)

Andreas
