Commit succeeded, but other errors follow???

I'm getting headaches dealing with a working copy and trying to commit
to the repository. What appears to happen is that a commit is run in
Tortoise and I get the following error:

Commit succeeded, but other errors follow:

Error bumping revisions post-commit (details follow):

In directory 'foo'

Error processing command 'committed' in 'foo'

Error replacing text-base of 'bar'

Can't set file 'foo\bar.svnbase' read-write:...

This is on a Redhat Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 3) machine running
svn, version 1.4.0 (r21228) over HTTP.

After getting this error I ran an update and it subsequently merGed
every file I had just committed.

Any thoughts? Need more info? Do I need to update to a newer revision?
