Well, maybe point him to any number of web discussions about how VSS
regularly loses *everything* that it has stored. Does he want minor
workflow issues around rev numbers, or total data loss?

VSS is not an industrial-strength product. Subversion is. Period.
And, yes, I've used both extensively.
