Accessing a SUBVERSION repository via a web browser

I am a novice to SUBVERSION, using XP.
What do I need to do to access a remote SUBVERSION repository via a web
browser (IE or Mozilla)?
(I have seen a lot of references to such capability but found no
instructions for set-up)
