This command shows you which version of svnserve would be started if the
path settings of your current shell are valid. This has nothing to do
with the running svnserve. Did you kill your svnserve process after
installation of Subversion 1.4.0? Is the path in your startup or inetd
configuration files okay or does it point to another copy of svnserve?
Have you searched for other instances with find / -name svnserve ?
Are you sure that the installation program has overwritten the old
svnserve binary?
