svn 1.3 <-> httpd 2.2 solution

I finally got 1.3.0 to work "correctly" (as advertised) with httpd 2.2.0. After trying everything suggested by the good people on the committers' list and here, it finally came down to Apache failing at the loadmodule directive for
 
mod_dav_svn.so not being able to find libsvn_repos-1.so.0 in /usr/local/lib.
 
I finally got it working by reading about ldconfig in Running Linux (O'Reilly 2003) and its man page.
 
whew...3 friggin days!!
 
Thanks to the bloke in England who pointed me in the right direction.
