Hmmm. I am considering using Subversion for a new project, but this is
interesting news to me.

So what if one developer wants to check out one file in directory A and
another wants to check out a different file in the directory? Not possible?

This can thus be done only by branching and each developer putting the
file he needs into his branched directory A?

I know VSS, not CVS, but I understand that Subversion should be a
'better' solution than either. Perhaps I am not understanding something
correctly.
