RE: RE: timeout issues over vpn

We also have these problems accessing our larger repositories over our
WAN (across offices between Toronto, Vancouver and Amsterdam). All our
offices have 10mbit lines as far as I'm aware. My guess is anything
slowing the process down will contribute to the problem. I've had
various degrees of success defragmenting drives, disabling virus
scanners, etc.

I don't think that running SVN over VPN is a problem in and of itself. I
think it all comes down to what the latency of the over-VPN connection
to SVN is. Different users using the same VPN are going to have
different results depending on what their ping is more so than what
their bandwidth is like.

I've had slow but error-free connections to our SVN server over VPN
using a 36kbps dialup connection, albeit it not accessing very large
repositories, and being very economical about what commands I run and
how I run them. I've also had a ton of issues over a broadband
(1.5mbit)/high-latency (>700ms ping) 2-way satellite hookup.

I recently also saw a problem case (same "connection forcibly closed"
error) where the user was trying to switch a working copy located on a
network share located within the LAN.

Cheers
Rob

Inside our network (using svnserve) we don't get any issues, myself
using
the vpn - I don't get any issues - but another one of the guys using the
vpn
gets constant issues.

The only difference is that I am on a 2mbit / 128kb pipe and the other
guy
is on a 10mbit pipe.

We are both using recent tsvn clients - im completely at a loss..

Thanks for your help

Interesting. Do you see timeouts only on the VPN, not with svnserve
alone? I've been using the MS VPN stuff quite a lot lately and see no
timeouts, so that suggests it at least can be configured to make it
right. But I don't know how that is done...
